Liverpool should make a move for Kalidou Koulibaly

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol says Kalidou Koulibaly would be a dream signing to make this summer.

The Senegalese international is expected to leave Napoli this summer window and is heavily linked with Manchester City.

Even Manchester United held a long-term interest in the Napoli defender.

Former Liverpool player Nicol believes that Koulibaly could create a daunting partnership with Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.

But he knows that the former would not join the Reds because of the spectacular form that Joe Gomez portrayed this season.

“Listen, I think in an ideal world you would like to have Koulibaly sat next to Virgil van Dijk, but it’s never going to happen,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

“Gomez has actually done a really good job, just before the pandemic shutdown I thought he had gotten back to where he was before that bad injury 18 months ago.

“But if I had a wishlist then I would wish that Koulibaly could be beside Virgil van Dijk.”

Liverpool signed Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas earlier this week from Olympiakos.

The 24-year-old became the club’s first major signing of the summer window.
