According to Matthijs de Ligt’s agent, Mino Raiola, Liverpool will have to cross untouched horizons to sign the Ajax defender this summer.

The 19-year-old is being pursued by six elite European outfits which include the recent Champions League winners and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Many have predicted that Anfield could be the perfect destination for the budding teenage star due to the presence of his international teammate, Virgil van Dijk. A central defensive partnership for the two could prove to be rewarding for years to come.

However, de Ligt’s wages will immediately spark trouble as per demands set by Raiola. The Reds will have to make the Dutchman their highest paid player in the club’s history, over the likes of Mohamed Salah, van Dijk, Alisson and Sadio Mane.

United are offering him £236,000-per-week and Paris Saint-Germain have bettered that with £256,000-per-week. Cannot tell if these are just numbers thrown around by news outlets but anything over the £200,000-per-week or even nearer to it could cause issues in the Liverpool dressing room.

Their highest paid player is now Salah at £200,000-per-week, followed up by van Dijk who makes £150,000-per-week. Both are experienced leaders of the side who has been instrumental in the club’s recent success.

It would be embarrassing to see a teenager jump in and immediately make more money than them.
