The Guinean midfielder has been out of action since sustaining an injury in training the night before the European Super Cup final against Chelsea. Liverpool star fit for MK Dons game in the Carabao Cup.

The midfielder has been back in full training for the past week, and assistant boss Pep Lijnders confirmed he could feature with Caoimhin Kelleher in the Carabao Cup. He will make his return for Liverpool on Wednesday – almost five months after his last competitive appearance for the Reds. “Yes (he could return on Wednesday),” said Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders. “I will not give the team but he is in a really good way.

“What a boy! He makes our build-up play completely different; he creates unpredictability how the ball moves forward.

“He is an important player, so hopefully we can use him in the next weeks and hopefully tomorrow will be a day where he can shine.”

Lijnders also suggested that keeper Alisson is close to a return too.

“Ali? That is good. He is training with the other goalkeepers and the coaches – he looks really well to be honest.

“But we have to be really careful with these types of injuries, and especially with a keeper because it is speed reaction and especially because he is a big guy, so a lot of weight goes through, but he is on his way back.”

Klopp could change his entire lineup for the trip to MK Dons. His options have been limited slightly by an untimely injury for Xherdan Shaqiri. Origi won’t be an option too but he’s close to returning.
