According to reports, a Liverpool player has declined a new contract with the team, raising the possibility that another big star would depart. Arne Slot has been a huge success since taking over as manager of Liverpool in the summer, replacing the late great Jurgen Klopp. The Reds have already won the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
The contract talks with Liverpool’s three best players—Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—who might all depart the team for free in the summer have, however, received the majority of the attention this season. The three players aren’t the only club stars who are eager to resign, though, as one of the main players reportedly turned down the club’s initial offer. The Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claims that Luis Diaz, a winger for Liverpool, may be leaving the team soon after turning down a bid to prolong his current contract.
Diaz unhappy with reported Liverpool contract offer
Barcelona is reportedly interested in a move for the Reds’ number seven, and Liverpool wants to extend the 27-year-old’s contract on Merseyside, according to a report published by Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday. The Colombian is believed to have turned down the offer from Anfield management, though, because he believes it is out of proportion to what he has contributed to the team both this season and since joining the team three years prior.
The current salary that Diaz is receiving at Liverpool varies greatly depending on the source. Sport reports that he makes £90,000 a week, although Capology lists his pay as a pitiful £55,000, which is £20,000 less than that of Kostas Tsimikas, the left-back’s second option. Regardless of the actual amount, such projects seem to indicate that the Colombian isn’t extremely well compensated when weighing his contributions to the team against his compensation in comparison to the rest of the team.
