Liverpool is expected to lose the Premier League crown to Manchester City this year despite the huge pressure on Pep Guardiola.
The Reds will start their 2020/21 Premier League campaign by facing newly-promoted Leeds United at Anfield this weekend.
Liverpool has been quiet in this summer window and made just one signing- – £12million Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas.
Meanwhile, City have added four players to their squad this summer but Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes there will be more pressure on Guardiola this season after last year’s Champions League disappointment.
But he believes that Pep’s City are better equipped to cope with the adversity and will be successful in bringing the title back to the Etihad.
“I think next season they’ll be a level of pressure on Guardiola and Manchester City that they haven’t been used to in recent years,” McCoist said on the talkSPORT Breakfast.
“I think the gap, as massive as it was last season, a lot of it was down to the fact Liverpool were brilliant and Man City wanted to concentrate their efforts on the Champions League, which ultimately ended in disappointment.
“I think there will be a real scrutiny this season coming on Guardiola that hasn’t been there before.
“There’s no doubting his ability as a coach, he’s absolutely superb, but I just think the pressure will be great on them this year.
“But, I think they’ll be able to handle it, and that’s basically why I think they’re favourites [for the title].
“I’d like to have seen Liverpool strengthen, because apart from the left-back they haven’t dabbled in the market at all, and I think City will not have finished yet.”
