Liverpool seems to have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder, Dani Ceballos.

According to the latest reports, the Reds might lose out to their Champions League final opponents, Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the 22-year-old.

Spurs are reportedly close to securing a loan move for Ceballos, whom Jurgen Klopp had identified as one of his top transfer targets this summer.

The Galactico has held talks with Mauricio Pochettino and could be set for a temporary switch to North London. He is well out of Zinedine Zidane’s plans for the upcoming season and Tottenham will be able to offer him much more playing time.

Spurs have lost Moussa Dembele this past season and Victor Wanyama’s future with them have been cast into serious doubt after the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele. While Pochettino does have Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Erie Dier to rely on for the two deep midfield roles, we all can agree that Tottenham needs the creative touch of a maestro.

Ceballos is still very young and has shown the potential to command the central spaces with the ball. Liverpool reportedly were about to bid £45m for him but Spurs can offer him a more lucrative deal of actual on-field minutes.

The Reds have so far concluded only one signing and that too of a 17-year-old prospect in Sepp van den Berg. Should the club’s transfer dealings start to worry the Anfield fans?
