According to reports, Liverpool are interested in signing Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze. The Reds could consider moving for Chukwueze if they offload Xherdan Shaqiri. Shaqiri played a key role in Liverpool’s dramatic comeback against Barcelona, assisting Georginio Wijnaldum’s second goal which brought Liverpool level with Barcelona on aggregate.
Shaqiri joined Liverpool from Stoke City last summer on a transfer fee of £13.5 million. The Swiss winger has so far made 30 appearances for Liverpool this season so far, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists.
Liverpool may not spend much in the transfer market but they are eager to deepen their squad for the next season. Provided Shaqiri does leave the club, Liverpool will pursue Chukwueze.
The 20-year old Nigerian winger has made 47 appearances for Villarreal this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 4 assists. Chukwueze’s performances for Villarreal earned him a place in Nigeria’s provisional squad for this year’s African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
