Liverpool To Put Off Timo Werner Chase This January

Liverpool could wait till summer to pursue a deal for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

Jurgen Klopp has already revealed his plans of rebuilding Liverpool after signing his contract extension.

Not that this Champions League winning squad really needs rebuilding but reinforcements are necessary for long-term benefits. Klopp started that process by signing 24-year-old Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg.

Liverpool were also strongly linked to Werner along other Premier League giants like Chelsea and Manchester United. Unlike Minamino, Werner is a versatile forward who will be demanding a starting spot on his arrival.

In the current scenario, it is very difficult to outplay any of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah to a starting spot in the front three. Werner’s level of impact will be much lower than that of Minamino, despite him being a profecient goalscorer.

Liverpool only had to stake out £7.5m for Minamino but a striker of Werner’s status could cost a significant sum in the present market. The 23-year-old is contracted to Leipzig till the summer of 2023.
