Liverpool To Sell Origi And Shaqiri To Fund Defensive Additions

Liverpool could offload two attackers to make defensive improvements this January.

As the winter transfer window approaches, Jurgen Klopp will be looking at addressing his key injury problems.

One of them lies in the centre-back position with both first-choice starters, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out for the season. Joel Matip is the only other senior centre-half left with Fabinho forced to deputise in the position for key fixtures.

Rhys Williams have impressed and youngster, Sepp van der Berg is still not rated highly enough by Klopp. Nat Phillips has been kept on but he hardly commands the same quality as the primary two.

Express understands that the Reds could offload two forwards to fund their January spendings. In these uncertain times, finances are tight for all clubs out there. Selling seems to be the only way to bring in additional talent and Liverpool are no different.

They could offload Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri for £15 million each. Liverpool seem to have found the ideal forward in Diogo Jota to subsidize for the proven front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

If either were to be let go, Klopp could bring in an experienced figure to man his backline. The 2-0 defeat to Atalanta showcased Liverpool’s obvious gaps at the back.
