The Reds have been to told to avoid a move for World Cup star

Liverpool were expected to strengthen the squad this summer and manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a a statement of intent in bolstering his squad during the transfer window by completing 4 signings.

The Reds have secured the signing of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, Fabinho from Monaco, Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and Alisson Becker from Roma.

The English side are believed to be in the market for more signings before the transfer window closes next month and are reportedly looking for defensive reinforcements. Croatia star Domagoj Vida has been linked with a move to Anfield since his impressive displays in the World Cup.

The 29 year old was one of the standout players for his nation in Russia and helped them to reach their first World Cup final ever. Though there were defeated by France in the final match of the tournament.

The centre-back has also been linked with Everton and West Ham, the Besiktas defender would represent a relatively cheap option, potentially around the £20 million mark, should Klopp choose to swoop.

Former Liverpool full-back Steve Nicol has urged the club to avoid a move for Vida and should instead turn their attention towards Atletico Madrid star Diego Godin.

I would say no [to signing Vida],” He told ESPN, “If I could right now, I would go to Atletico Madrid and get Godin.

“He’s got another couple of seasons left in him and the guy is just an out-and-out defender who organises a defence.”

It was suggested to Nicol that a move away from the Spanish side in favour of Anfield would represent a step down for the Uruguay International, but the 56-year-old doesn’t feel that is the case.

“They got to the Champions League final last year – who got further last season, Liverpool or Atletico Madrid?

“How many times have Atletico Madrid won it? Zero. How many times have Liverpool won it? Five. It’s not a step down.”
