The player is claimed to be the perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play
Liverpool had a pretty decent campaign last season despite losing the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Jurgen Klopp is keen to make new signings this summer in order to strengthen the squad for next season.
Club’s Chairman Tom Werner assured that the manager will be given transfer funds to add reinforcements in the transfer window.
The Premier League giants have already completed the signing of Fabinho from Monaco and RB Leipzig’s midfielder Naby Keita. But the club are not planning to stop there and are looking to make more signings to reinforce key areas.
Former Reds captain Phil Thompson has urged Klopp to break the bank to sign Harry Maguire this summer.
The defender joined Leicester City from Hull City on a five-year contract for an initial £12 million fee, potentially rising to £17 million with add-ons last summer.
The 25 year featured regularly for the Foxes last term and was very impressive, scoring two goals and assisted 6 in 46 appearances. He featured in all the 38 Premier League matches.
The centre-back has been one of the standout performers in England’s march to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Russia, where they will face Sweden.
“I’ve been a big fan of Harry Maguire since his days at Hull City,” Thompson told the ECHO.
“Since then he’s got better and better. He’s had a fantastic World Cup so far.
“I was saying long before the tournament started that he has all the attributes needed to be a Liverpool player.
“He’s big, he’s strong and positionally he’s very good whether as a two or a three at the back.
“He’s a lot quicker than people give him credit for. He dominates in the air and that’s a major asset both defensively and offensively.
“He’s also very comfortable on the ball. He’s better than John Stones when it comes to passing it out from the back.
“Harry has been one of the best defenders in the World Cup and he certainly fits Liverpool’s philosophy. I can’t speak more highly of him.
