Liverpool and Portugal are reeling after the devastating loss of Diogo Jota, who died overnight in a car accident in Zamora, Spain, along with his brother, Andre Silva.

Around 00:30 on Thursday, their Lamborghini veered off the A‑52 motorway in Cernadilla, reportedly due to a tyre blowout while overtaking.
The vehicle burst into flames, and both men tragically died at the scene, according to Spain’s Civil Guard. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Jota, born in Porto, quickly became a fan favorite after transferring from Wolverhampton to Liverpool in 2020 for approximately £41 million.
Over five years, he netted 65 goals in 182 appearances, helping lead the Reds to Premier League glory in 2025—the club’s first in two decades—as well as FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Community Shield victories.

Internationally, he earned 49 caps for Portugal, contributing to UEFA Nations League wins in 2019 and just last month against Spain.
The Portuguese Football Federation expressed profound grief: “We have lost two champions… Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football” . Prime Minister Luís Montenegro echoed the nation’s sorrow, describing the news as “unexpected and tragic”.
Liverpool FC also issued a statement, saying the club is “devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota” and urging respect for the family’s privacy during this unimaginable time.
Jota was not only celebrated for his explosive pace, technical skill, and clinical finishing, but also cherished for his warm spirit and closeness to teammates.
