Since his £12.5 million move from Juventus, Chiesa’s Liverpool career has yet to gain momentum, with injuries and fitness issues hampering his minutes on the pitch.

Italian manager Spalletti, addressing Chiesa’s absence in recent line-ups, hinted that regular club performances are essential for a national team call-up.

The 27-year-old Italian has only managed a handful of appearances under Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who sympathized with Chiesa’s situation but acknowledged the challenges.

Slot cited Chiesa’s interrupted pre-season and difficulty adapting to the intense Premier League tempo as obstacles to securing regular game time.

“He missed an entire pre-season and is adjusting to a league that demands intense physicality,” Slot said.

“It’s tough on him, especially without time to catch up.”

Chiesa last featured in Liverpool’s September win over West Ham, where he provided an assist before being substituted.

However, that outing has been his only start, with Liverpool’s packed front line — including the in-form Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz — limiting further opportunities.

The Italian’s omission from the squad against Arsenal highlighted the ongoing struggle. As Liverpool prepares to face Brighton in the Carabao Cup, Chiesa’s inclusion could provide him a chance to impress both Slot and Spalletti.

With the possibility of a national team snub looming, Chiesa’s journey at Liverpool is quickly becoming a crucial chapter for his international future.
