Loris Karius Assumes He Will Be Given Number Two Role At Liverpool, Pundit Tells Him Otherwise

Loris Karius has returned to Anfield after cutting his two-year loan spell with Besiktas short.

He has expressed a desire to fill in behind Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s number two but Paul Robinson believes he will not be offered that opportunity.

Jurgen Klopp already has a backup goalkeeper in Adrian, who he signed for free last summer. After Karius’ horror show in the 2018 Champions League final, Robinson believes the 26-year-old is “presumptuous” to think that he will be allowed back into this Liverpool side.

The former England number one said, “He has assumed that he would be. I do not think you can assume anything at a football club. Jurgen Klopp will tell him what the pecking order is and Alisson is clearly number one.

“As to whether Karius would could back and sit on the bench… Adrian has come in and done a good job at times. He has been shaky as well but it is very presumptuous by Karius to think he will come straight back onto the bench. Second-choice goalkeepers do get an opportunity but it is a completely different mindset. I personally cannot see it. I think there is too much water under the bridge at Liverpool. I think he is done.”

Karius has previously told Transfermarkt, “It makes no sense to say I’m leaving Liverpool for a worse club and I’m only the number two there.”
