Micah Richards Hails Federico Chiesa as Premier League’s Top Summer Signing
Micah Richards has labeled Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool as the best Premier League signing of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool secured the versatile Italian winger for a mere £12.5 million, a deal that Richards believes could prove to be a masterstroke.
Richards, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, praised Chiesa’s dynamic abilities and versatility.
“Chiesa is an exceptional talent,” Richards said.
“He can operate on either wing or even as a wing-back. His electric pace and adaptability are invaluable, and the Premier League’s expansive style of play will suit him perfectly.”
Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus in a deal worth £10 million plus £2.5 million in add-ons, brings significant experience to Anfield.
He scored 34 goals and provided 26 assists for Juventus over four seasons and was instrumental in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph.
Despite some injury struggles and a mixed tenure at Juventus, Chiesa’s potential remains undeniable.
Richards highlighted the bargain nature of the transfer, especially considering Chiesa’s previous valuation of £100 million.
“For £12.5 million, Liverpool are getting a player who, just a few seasons ago, was worth a lot more. It’s a gamble worth taking,” Richards explained.
“If Chiesa stays fit and finds his rhythm, Liverpool could have one of the most exciting players in the league.”
Alan Shearer echoed Richards’ sentiments, noting that even if Chiesa doesn’t live up to the hype, the low cost makes it a risk worth taking.
Liverpool fans will be eager to see if Chiesa can live up to expectations when he makes his debut, potentially against Nottingham Forest on September 14.
