Monaco have agreed a fee with Liverpool for versatile forward Takumi Minamino

Since arriving at Anfield from Red Bull Salzburg two and a half years ago, the Japan international has played just a supporting role. He also spent time on loan at Southampton during the 2020–21 season.

Even though Minamino only saw 894 minutes of action during the 2021/22 season, he nevertheless contributed 10 goals and one assist for the Reds across all competitions.

Unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old was told he could go last week, and Monaco of Ligue 1 are now close to offering him a contract.

Several Premier League teams, including Leeds and Fulham, have made approaches for the attacker, but the side from the principality got the jump on them by agreeing on a price with Liverpool.

Monegasques will pay a price of €15 million (€12.9 million) plus an additional €3 million (€2.6 million) in add-ons.

The Reds have already strengthened their assault in recent weeks and months, pushing Minamino lower down the pecking order. Sadio Mane is also close to leaving Liverpool as he gets ready to join Bayern Munich.

After being brought on board in January, flying winger Luis Diaz had an excellent second half of the season. The Reds promptly rushed to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez earlier this month in a high-profile transaction. Fabio Carvalho, a young attacker, has also transferred from Fulham.
