Neco Williams leaves Anfield after 15 long years.

The 21-year-old defender joins the newly-promoted side Nottingham Forest in a £17million move.

The Liverpool academy graduate spent his years at Anfield but he struggled to fit in the backup role for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He made 33 appearances for the Merseyside club and was pivotal in Wales’ qualification for the Qatar World Cup in November.

Williams said on Twitter: “15 years at this special club, thank you for everything Liverpool. it’s been an honour to play for this club and to play under Jurgen Klopp. But I’ve now decided to take up a new challenge. I wish all the team and the staff the best of luck for the future and will always continue to support the club. Thank you and never forget YNWA!!!”

Liverpool said in an official statement: “Everybody at Liverpool would like to thank Neco for his contributions to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
