OFFICIAL Takumi Minamino Leaves Liverpool For Southampton On Loan

Takumi Minamino has officially joined Southampton on loan.

Liverpool agreed to send the Japanese international on a spell away to get more minutes under his belt.

Jurgen Klopp signed him for around €7.5m in the January of 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg. He auditioned well for the Reds during their Champions League meeting back in October 2019.

Minamino came in as cover for the front three but he could not really offer much. He featured in various positions across the attack and in midfield. While he delivered with 4 goals in 31 appearances for Liverpool so far, he is simply not good enough for the first team right now.

Sending him out to a Premier League club like Southampton will be beneficial for both the player and Liverpool. Minamino will have more chances than the 700+ minutes he featured in this season.

Ralph Hassenhutl also likes injection of pace and energy into his high-pressing system which Minamino offers in plenty. He is always enthusiastic with his off the ball runs and works well in tight spaces.

Liverpool have most of their injured stars returning in Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. With them higher in the pecking order, it would be key for Minamino to prove himself elsewhere.
