Pepe Reina is backing Liverpool goalie Alison to break his clean sheet record this season.
The Brazilian arrived from AS Roma in the last summer and since then has been the undisputed choice in the Liverpool goal. Reds’ last man in defence registered his 20th clean sheet of the season as the title contenders put in a convincing display to outclass Huddersfield Town in the last match.
Reina achieved this feat twice in his Liverpool career, once in 2005-06 season and again in 2008-09. Alisson will have two matches to break the current record as another clean sheet could see his name being written in the history book.
Reina said, “I’m fancying him to do it
“Although, he’s played more games than because I think I played 32 or 33 games to complete 20 clean sheets and he’s played 36!
“But still it’s a great achievement. I’m looking forward to [him breaking the record]. If it’s Saturday against Newcastle, good. If it’s the last game of the league, even better if that means Liverpool is the Premier League champion
“It’s the goalkeepers’ union as we say. We have mutual respect for each other and I admire him because he’s not just a goalkeeper, but a great goalkeeper in a club that I love.”
