Phillips And Kabak Laps Up Praise From Liverpool Boss

Jurgen Klopp was ecstatic over the performances of his two centre-halfs.

Liverpool won 2-0 over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night with Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak in defence.

Both players kept Julian Nagelsmann’s attacking side at bay, helping the Reds progress to the Champions League quarter-finals. The inexperienced centre-back pairing was one of the 18 partnerships Klopp has tried out this season.

Given, their horrific domestic form, Liverpool will have to start winning games with the players they do have available. They looked much more solid defensively with Fabinho in midfield shielding the backline.

“The two centre halves played an incredible game,” Klopp told BT Sport after the game. “The whole last line played an incredible game because that is a tough task. We had to press them.

“We defended deep together really well which is important. Everybody had a really good game. It was a good performance.”

Now, Liverpool will have to dig deep and find their winning momentum once again. They cannot rely on leaders Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk to lead them through games this season. Klopp has to figure out a way to transfer their European form over to the Premier League.
