5 Players Who Rejected Liverpool

Cristiano Ronaldo – Players Who Rejected Liverpool

If only Liverpool had the chance to see what Cristiano Ronaldo would become in the future, the  Merseysiders would have offered him a blank cheque.

However, no such thing happened when Gerard Houllier spotted the 18-year-old Ronaldo back in 2003. Liverpool were adamant on agreeing to the Portuguese ace’s wage demands. Added to that, Houllier also thought that at 18, CR7 was far too young to play in the rigorous Premier League.

Ronaldo rejected Liverpool after being unable to agree on personal terms with them, eventually joining their fierce rivals Manchester United.
The rest, as they say, is history!

Michael Laudrup – Players Who Rejected Liverpool

Michael Laudrup has gone down as one of the greatest midfielders ever to have played football. The Dane would have ended up at Liverpool if only the Reds hadn’t managed to scupper their own move.

Already on the radar of European heavyweights in 1983, Laudrup had agreed to join the Merseysiders from Brondby. However, Liverpool decided to extend his three-year contract by another 12 months – a move that didn’t go down well with Laudrup’s party.

The Dane rejected the chance to come to Anfield, signing for Juventus eventually.

Nemanja Vidic – Players Who Rejected Liverpool

Nemanja Vidic is one of the most celebrated defenders in the Premier League, thanks to his successful stint with Manchester United.  Liverpool fans will also remember him for the battles he used to have with Fernando Torres.

However, few are aware that Liverpool were actually the first club to attempt a move for the Serbian when he was in Moscow. But, Rafa Benitez failed to convince the defender to move to England, even though he had just guided the Kop to a famous Champions League final victory against AC Milan a year ago.

Sir Alex Ferguson was then quick to intervene and convince Vidic during his negotiations with Liverpool. With the aura he had, Ferguson managed to close the deal for the Serb in just two days and make him one of the bargain signings in United’s illustrious history.

Alexis Sanchez – Players Who Rejected Liverpool

Back in 2014 when Alexis Sanchez was on the verge of leaving Barcelona, Liverpool along with Arsenal were being linked heavily with the Chilean. The rumours about Liverpool also made sense, knowing the Catalans were targetting a mega-deal for Luis Suarez. Sanchez could have been the ideal man to fill his boots at Anfield.

However, Arsenal managed to snap up the winger despite Liverpool offering a better package. It was rumoured that Sanchez was more interested in staying in the capital than the Merseyside.

Sanchez, however, revealed the truth later, saying he felt Arsenal were more capable of challenging for silverware than the Kop.

Diego Costa – Players Who Rejected Liverpool

Diego Costa’s transfer to Chelsea will go down as one of the greatest steals in the Premier League history. Back in 2013, Brendan Rodgers had earmarked Costa and triggered the £21.8m release clause to sign from Atletico Madrid.

However, Costa rejected the move to Anfield and it was later revealed that Jose Mourinho was the reason for the collapsed move. Apparently, the Special One had promised the Spaniard that he would sign him with a better package if he was prepared to wait.

Costa stayed at Atletico and won the LaLiga title. Later, following the league victory, Costa joined Chelsea and scored 20 goals to win the Premier League title.

As for the Liverpool supporters, the Costa-Suarez partnership remained nothing but just a possibility for them. Watch & Bet Football Here =>
