Richard Hughes appears to be preparing for a significant January transfer. The sporting director for Liverpool hasn’t had the finest start to his new position thus far. He still has plenty of time to make amends, though. Given that Andy Robertson is now thirty years old, finding a replacement left-back is quickly rising to the top of Liverpool’s priority list for their future plans.

According to a TEAMtalk report, Hughes is attempting to sign Milos Kerkez and Martin Zubimendi during the January transfer window. Even if he wants to sign both, the report suggests Liverpool may only be able to afford one with the other deal being finalized in the summer rather than right now.

Hughes desperate for double Liverpool transfer deal

With the arrival of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, Liverpool may soon try to increase the number of Hungarians at Anfield. With young fullback Luke Chambers (20), Andy Robertson’s understudy Kostas Tsimikas, and Richard Hughes, the Merseysiders now have a plethora of options at the position.

According to sources, Liverpool is expected to make an offer, and Bournemouth anticipates Kerkez leaving next summer or perhaps in January. Although they are also fans of Kerkez, Manchester United objected to his £40 million asking price during the most recent transfer window. Liverpool is now well-positioned to help Kerkez advance to a higher level.

Hughes’ ability to complete both moves would be a huge win for Liverpool and would drastically alter how the supporters view him. For now, though, it would be shocking if he made two deals in January.
