Roberto Firmino attempting to prove to Klopp despite fresh competition

Firmino wants to show he is still capable of producing the goods.

According to journalist Dean Jones, Liverpool star Roberto Firmino is attempting to prove to Jurgen Klopp that it will be difficult to replace him at Anfield despite the fresh competition being drafted in.

The Brazilian made the £29million switch from Hoffenheim seven years ago, but there are serious doubts over whether he will be on Merseyside beyond the end of the season.

Firmino came off the bench and scored against Arsenal on Sunday, but it was not enough to stop Liverpool from losing the game 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

The frontman has now scored nine goals in just seven Premier League outings. However, there are question marks over where Firmino’s long-term future lies. His contract will expire in 2023.

The Brazil international will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas suitors when he enters the final six months of his deal in January. Juventus can again push themselves to make a bid for Firmino.

Jones believes Firmino could be attempting to prove a point during the final months of his Liverpool contract as he wants to show he is still capable of producing the goods.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Maybe there’s something in it that he’s got fresh competition for his shirt, but he probably would have expected that at this stage of his career anyway.

“He’s probably just making a case and saying ‘you can try and replace me, but it’s not going to be as easy as you think it is’.”
