Roy Keane Believes Virgil Van Dijk Would Be A Shoo-In At Manchester United's Treble-Winning Squad

Roy Keane would happily take Virgil Van Dijk into Manchester United’s treble winning squad of 1999.

Van Dijk was nominated right next to Lionel Messi for the 2019 Balon d’Or after his heroics helped Liverpool to two Champions League finals.

He has been immense for the Reds since his £75m switch from Southampton in January 2018. Many regard him as one of the best defenders in the world and that is rightfully so, as Liverpool seem to be cruising with a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Keane on his conversation with Jamie Carragher believes the Dutchman would be a shoo in at Manchester United during their golden period.

“I don’t think it’s a big decision, put Van Dijk in next to [Jaap] Stam,” said Carragher, as quoted by The Daily Mail. “But who’s the best out of those two?”

“I’m a big fan of Van Dijk,” replied Keane. “The guy’s a machine, but Jaap was a machine, Jaap was fantastic. Van Dijk a touch better on the ball. The two of them together you can’t imagine conceding too many goals.”

Van Dijk would probably get into a lot of other legendary teams, given how skilled he has become at everything he does. The 28-year-old is on his way to grasp yet another title with Liverpool, making him one of the most worthwhile investments in footballing history.
