Sadio Mane: I don't feel like a champion yet

Anfield has been waiting for a title for 30 years, and the coronavirus pandemic has delayed the crowning of the new Premier League champion from the city of the Beatles, for a while longer. How long exactly – no one knows.

Liverpool could be the biggest losers in the history of football, if you look at the situation this season. The English giant played brilliantly, won 27 of the 29 matches in the Premier League and has an incredible 25 points ahead of the second-placed Manchester City.

Despite such a situation, Liverpool still cannot be called a champion because they need at least two more victories to theoretically reach the trophy. However, the coronavirus pandemic has so far prevented that. The championship is expected to continue, but most clubs are against such a variant.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane says he wants the games to be played, but if that doesn’t happen, Liverpool will prove to be true champions next season.

“I don’t feel like a champion. I love my job, I love football and I want to be a champion on the field. I want to win the trophy with victories. However, whatever happens, I will understand because I know what situation we found ourselves in. It’s hard for Liverpool, but it’s much harder for millions of people around the world. People lose loved ones and the situation is very complicated.

“My dream this season is to be Premier League champions, but if that doesn’t happen now, we will show next season that we are the best.”

UEFA president Alexander Cheferin recently stated that he “does not see how Liverpool could lose the title”, and interestingly, in Belgium everything is ready to declare Club Brugge as a champion, although it has “only” 15 points advantage over closest competition.
