Sterling unsatisfied with PFA awards

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk won the PFA awaxrd on 28th April, 2019 – but Man City’s Raheem Sterling doesn’t think it’s fair.

He argues that Manchester City players work just as hard and play on the same level, especially players like Yaya Toure, Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero – and the award could have been considered for them.

‘Especially in the last year where we have won the domestic quadruple including the league, to not have a player winning PFA Player of the Year kind of speaks for itself really,’ Sterling told AS.

He pointed out that every time Man City won the Premier League, some other player from another club got the award – like van Dijk.

‘The award was given to a Liverpool player [Virgil van Dijk] who had a fantastic season but I look at previous seasons as well when Yaya Toure scored 20 goals from midfield and he didn’t win Player of the Year.

‘Also, Sergio Aguero has been at the club for more than seven years and has scored unbelievable goals during this time, yet none of City’s players have won it.

“We obviously want to keep our best players. Kante is an incredible player, everyone knows that,” Lampard added.

“At the end of the day, no matter what the quality of the player, you want players who want to be here at Chelsea and push to close the gap upwards.

“It’s a question for the end of the season. The player you mention [Kante] – we want to be adding to players like that.”
