Steve Nicol slams Nat Phillips for his horrendous performance against Real Madrid.

Jurgen Klopp has been advised by Reds legend Steve Nicol to drop Nat Philips.

Philips has been a regular this season due to the awful injury problems the Merseyside club have faced.

Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final game in Madrid.

Toni Kroos explained how they were instructed to expose the inexperienced Reds centre-back duo Nat Phillips and new signing Ozan Kabak.

Steve Nicol claims that Phillips’ time should be up in a Reds shirt.

“You’ve got Phillips who today showed his complete and utter lack of experience,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“The two goals he was involved in are [about] starting positions.

“That comes down to experience and you can’t afford to have a player in such an important position who can’t get the first basic principle of defending, and that’s [getting] the starting position right.

“So no surprise you lose goals.”
