After a tough season in 2022/23, it was imperative that Liverpool goes back to the drawing board and restructure in view of a rebuild. The Reds are not making any rushed signings but are sorting their house in style. Two top signings have already landed at the club, without the Reds having to pay the very exorbitant fees we have become accustomed to in the Premier League. Acquiring Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for a mere 35 million pounds after activating his release clause was a masterclass from the Anfield side. The World Cup winner was one of the best in the Premier League last season and there is no doubt he has what it takes to do well at Liverpool. The Reds then went for Hungarian international, Dominik Szoboszlai, and after taking advantage of his release clause at RB Leipzig, they have another top player in their mix though this one would cost about double the price paid for Mac Allister. It is understandable, given Szoboszlai is only 22.
Big stage
It is on Dominik Szoboszlai that most Liverpool fans will want to see a difference, given the other signing is already used to the Premier League and has done well at the big stage. The Premier league comes with enormous pressure and Szoboszlai is expected to take it all in. So how does he fit in? Szoboszlai is a versatile player though he has shown a liking for the attacking midfield role. As Mac Allister fits into the role left by the departing Jordan Henderson, Szoboszlai will be more spread in the positions he plays. One area Liverpool will want to harness is Szoboszlai’s ability to get goal involvement from the long distance. Whether it is shooting, or the long range assist, or the additional defensive cover in midfield, Szoboszlai is a cut above his peers. For the opposing defenders, there is no time to slack with Szoboszlai on the pitch. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will definitely use this quality.
Szoboszlai adaptability
There hasn’t been a lot of talk about Szoboszlai’s adaptability in different roles and team formations. The midfielder will definitely thrive under Klopp, and it is every Liverpool fan’s hope that Thiago Alcantara can stay and hit top form finally, to team up with Szoboszlai and terrorize defenders. The two midfielders have the qualities to complement each other and Liverpool will have a great asset if Klopp can devise a way to deploy both players in the same game. What though is the one thing that Szoboszlai will have to work on to see that his time at Anfield is a success? As many of the boxes tick for the Hungarian international, he may need to beef up and improve in his physicality. This is considering that the Premier League can get tough, and especially since he may at times be needed to take on some defensive duties. Szoboszlai is fast and agile, and additional layer of physicality will mark him as a complete player, ready for the Premier League
