Liverpool won’t be offering Thiago Alcantara a new deal.
The veteran midfielder is yet to make an appearance in the current campaign and has only been limited to 11 appearances this calendar year.
A series of setbacks in the recovery has limited him to only a handful of training sessions which is frustrating for both the club and player.
His contract with Liverpool will expire next summer and would be allowed to leave Anfield as a free agent.
Saudi Pro League clubs are eyeing a move for the former Barcelona midfielder as they can guarantee him a huge paycheque in the twilight of his career.
Thiago has also been linked with a return to Barcelona but the prospect of him leaving on a free transfer is very unlikely.
Pundit Paul Merson also expects the midfielder to make an exit at the business end of the season.
“Thiago Alcantara has been incredibly unlucky with injuries but I’d be shocked if he stayed at Liverpool beyond this season,” Merson said.
“The Reds are unlikely to offload him in January because he’s still a top player when he’s fit but, at the end of the season, I can see him moving on as a free agent.”
