The former Premier League manager shared his thoughts on the England international’s future, claiming the Reds have “no chance” of keeping hold of their star defender.

Alexander-Arnold, now in the final year of his contract at Anfield, is reportedly intrigued by the idea of joining Real Madrid, especially with the opportunity to play alongside his close friend and England teammate, Jude Bellingham.

While Liverpool are keen to extend the 26-year-old’s stay on Merseyside, Sherwood insists that Real Madrid’s interest will prove too tempting to resist.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sherwood said, “Once Real Madrid come knocking, it’s hard to say no. Trent has won everything at Liverpool. He’s been a key part of their success, but I think he’s ready for a new challenge.”

Liverpool, under the leadership of new boss Arne Slot, have enjoyed an impressive start to the 2024-25 season, winning 11 of their first 12 matches across all competitions.

Yet Sherwood believes this won’t be enough to sway Alexander-Arnold’s decision.

“Of course, the good form helps, but Trent wants to keep winning trophies, and Real Madrid offer that in abundance. He’s been a magnificent servant to Liverpool, but I think he’s on his way out,” Sherwood added.

While Liverpool fans will be hoping for a change of heart, it seems that Alexander-Arnold’s time at Anfield could be drawing to a close as Real Madrid prepares to swoop in.
