Top Five worst Liverpool players last season in 2018/19

Top five worst Liverpool players last season in 2018/19? Here we look at the Top five worst Liverpool players last season. Who have been the worst Liverpool players last season? Here we will look at the stats and the writers opinion on who have been the worst Liverpool players in 2019.

Liverpool had a brilliant season last time out. The Reds were amazing in all sections of the pitch. They were good in attack, in midfield and in defence. They played some amazing football and not only reached the finals of the Champions League but also won it. They defeated big teams like Napoli and PSG in group stage before upstaging Barcelona after going 3-0 down in the first leg, in what was one of the best comebacks of all time. In the final, they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in what was a rather comfortable final for the Reds.

In the league, they were again brilliant as they amassed 97 points. It was a record collection of points for not only the Reds but also the Premier League. In the history of the English League, this was the third highest total ever collected and highest ever for a team to never win it. Yes, you heard it right, to never win it. That was because their competitor, Manchester City won the league by collecting 98 points, one point more. Liverpool set other records like losing only once throughout the entire season.

In the domestic leagues, they did not care much and ended up losing both competitions rather early which actually helped them focus on the other two big ones of the Premier League and Champions League.

However, even in this good season, we have been rather picky and critical and managed to find five players who were probably not up to the mark as compared to the rest of the squad. While they had amazing players like Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah and Sadio Mane who were stand out performers, we have been very critical and found five players who were probably low on the performance chart at Liverpool last season.

Top five worst Liverpool players last season in 2018/19

Dejan Lovren

The UCL winner is perhaps the most overrated player at Liverpool. He definitely was one of Liverpool’s worst players last season. He joined the club a few seasons back from Southampton. However, ever since his move, his growth has not really come through. The player has not done well at Liverpool.

He used to be at the heart of a Liverpool defence, where he has conceded many silly goals, made multiple defensive errors and has not helped Liverpool’s cause. Lovren played horrible football for years but due to lack of alternative options Liverpool and Klopp had to keep playing him.

Last year in the winter transfer window, the Reds signed another Southampton defender in Virgil Van Dijk. This time the move clicked for the Reds and Van Dijk’s move has galvanised the Liverpool defence. Also the growth of Gomez and Matip in central defence alongside the dominance of VVD meant that Lovren permanently lost his starting place in Liverpool defence.

It was good only as every time he played, he was silly and low on quality. He needs to realise his true standard and not play for Liverpool. He is a constant headache for VVD.

Alberto Moreno

Another player for Liverpool, who was bad in defence. He has left this season and has gone on to a new club but Moreno did cost Liverpool bad moments last season whenever he played. Thanks to Andy Robertson, he did not play much and was often used only for domestic games or inconsequential games.

He is a player who tries hard but is not of the same quality as Robertson of Scotland. He is bad in defence and often loses the ball in attack as well. He hardly tracks back properly and is bad in one on one situation.

Simon Mignolet

Another player who left Liverpool this season. He was the back up goalkeeper and back in his playing days, he was horrible in goal. In the few limited chances he got, he showed why he is backup to Liverpool. He made silly mistakes in goal and was not able to command a defence and conceded silly goals. He has now left Liverpool and they will be happy since Alisson has been injured now and they have Adrian now as backup, who is not as good as Alisson but is definitely better than Mignolet.

Adam Lallana

The talented English midfielder was tipped to go big in football as a youngster. He was a superstar in the making who could play multiple positions. He was used by Klopp in midfield initially and then finally used with the front three. He has done well in bits and pieces in different positions.

However, one major thing which has hindered his career is his multiple recurring injuries. He has never successfully completed a full season since moving to Liverpool without getting sidelined by injuries. It is this injury record which prevented him from cementing a first team spot in Klopp’s team and now the player is struggling for match time and form and rhythm. He is just a shadow of the player he once was. He was poor every time he played last season, clearly struggling to fit into the team.

Xherdan Shaqiri

The former Basel and Bayern star has been extremely unlucky. He has the talent to play for a big team but due to some extraordinary players he has always either had to settle for playing for a small team or being benched mostly in the big teams.

After his move to Stoke City where he proved his calibre, he was brilliant and with Stoke going down, he was on the move and signed by Liverpool. At Pool, his wing positions have been occupied by King og Egypt and Liverpool sensation Mo Salah and last year’s Premier League Ballon d’Or winner, Sadio Mane.

This means that Shaqiri has once again been relieved of a starting role and is on the bench, something that has seen him struggle to get rhythm and has resulted in him being a poor player on the team.

  1. Any list that fails to include Hazard as one of the worst performers of the season for Liverpool ,is meaningless. He was a disinterested disgrace ..sell,sell sell
