James Milner and Joel Matip will receive new contracts following tomorrow’s Champions League Final at Madrid. Both Milner and Matip have played key roles in Liverpool having the kind of season they had this season and the club wants to repay them by offering them new contracts.

Milner has made more than 150 appearances for Liverpool this season so far and has done really well for the club this season. His current contract expires this summer and Liverpool wants to keep the 33-year old at Anfield till 2021 at least.

Matip missed the start of the season due to injury and following the recovery of Dejan Lovren, many thought that Matip would mainly warm the bench. However, fate had different plans for the Cameroonian. Joe Gomez got injured and later, Dejan Lovren. Hence, Matip became a regular starter and made the most of it.

He forged a fine partnership with Virgil van Dijk at central defence and will most likely start with the Dutchman in tomorrow’s final.

Matip’s current contract runs out next summer and Liverpool wants to extend it. Given how Milner and Matip have done for Liverpool, it’s only fair that their contracts be extended.
