Van Dijk Ready To Bring Same Focus To Atletico Fixture As 4-0 Barca Win

Virgil van Dijk has been thinking about Barcelona’s visit to Anfield last season ahead of Atletico Madrid tie.

Liverpool have been in a similar situation where they will need to overcome a deficit in the Champions League knockout rounds.

Of course, the occasion is less demanding since Atletico are only a goal ahead in the round of 16 whereas, Barca were 3-0 up after the first semi-final leg. Nevertheless, Van Dijk will be taking a no nonsense approach to Wednesday’s crucial tie.

“We couldn’t give any chances away against Barcelona, either,” said Van Dijk, as quoted by Sky Sports. “We will go with the same mindset as always. Hopefully win the game and play good football, but first and foremost, we have to deliver a lot of passion and hard work.

“We have to get everyone going from the first second to the last. Things can happen and they could be the better team but we all want to show why we want to go through with our qualities and deserve to be in the next round.

Atletico will be tough, they are a fantastic side. They are one of the best in how they play. They are aggressive and they have fantastic players who can hurt you on the break too.”

Liverpool are ready to give Atletico the respect they deserve but they are depending on their home strength to get through to the next round of the competition.
