As Virgil van Dijk receives three offers to leave Liverpool this summer, he is apparently thinking about moving to Barcelona. The contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and the Liverpool captain are all about to expire. Manager Arne Slot has clarified the current situation, despite recent reports that stated Salah and Van Dijk were close to reaching an agreement on extensions.

Slot added, “You probably aren’t aware of some of our contractual circumstances. But Virgil, Mo, and Trent haven’t yet extended. We are aware that we must remain watchful and ready for any sudden developments.

“Although I am mainly focused on the short term, there are a lot of excellent people at this club who also think about the long term,” Slot added. It is imperative that we be prepared for any unexpected situations that may arise. Will players who aren’t making an effort right now want to compete for a spot or look for other opportunities? For the next transfer window and whatever other actions we may take, we need to be prepared.”

Van Dijk wants to play for Barcelona

Van Dijk is “determined to explore a new challenge in his career, aware that this is his last big chance to sign a major contract at an elite club,” according to a report that surfaced earlier on Monday. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Juventus are interested in signing the Dutchman, drawn not only by his skill but also by the chance to do it for free. He now has “three strong offers on the table.”

A major setback for Liverpool, who have enjoyed the center-back’s best play this season, is that the 33-year-old “would love to play” under Hansi Flick next season. Van Dijk frequently doesn’t appear to be exerting much effort when defending against the world’s finest, according to Reds icon Jamie Carragher. “He’s too talented for football at the highest level. It seems as though he still finds it too simple. Van Dijk plays the game with such ease that it almost seems like he should be at a higher level,” Carragher remarked.
