After sealing a spot in the Champions League knockouts Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is eyeing to better their previous records in the Champions League.
Liverpool knocked Out Napoli through a solitary Mohamed Salah goal as they moved to the next stages of the Champions League. The Reds needed a 1-0 victory against the Italian side and Salah continued his excellent form in front of the goal as he netted his fourth goal in the last two matches in all competitions.
Liverpool unexpectedly made their way to the final but an untimed injury to Salah robbed them off and Real Madrid went away with the Champions League title with a 3-1 win over the Reds.
The Dutch defender who will be unavailable for the first leg in the knockouts insists they want to overcome their previous mistakes. “It’s something that we all want, it’s something that we are going to give everything for.
“We want to play on the highest level and the Champions League, other than the Premier League for us, is the highest level.
“We want to reach the maximum and hopefully do better than we did last year in the Champions League. You need to have dreams, you need to go for it, otherwise why would you be a footballer?
“It’s a great time to be a Liverpool fan or player. It’s tough but enjoy it and embrace it. These are the days you want to experience as a footballer – and we are.”
