Why Liverpool Signed Premier League Record-Breaking Talent

Liverpool completed their second transfer of the 2019 summer window in Harvey Elliot. The teenage winger arrived from Fulham with a lot of hype.

The England U17 international broke the Premier League record last season, of being the youngest player ever to take the pitch at 16 years and 30 days. He cannot turn professional until his 17th birthday next April but Jurgen Klopp has already placed a lot of confidence in him.

“I could say so many positive things about the boy, we signed him, he came here, he decided on us and could have gone pretty much everywhere but he wanted to be part of Liverpool,” the Reds manager said.

“The stories with the boy start early and already he is the youngest ever Premier League player and has broken quite a few records because of his talent.

“Now he is here so let’s work with him. He needs game time, we will see where he gets that but he is obviously a fine, fine footballer and that’s why we were really interested.”

Liverpool have been pretty much absent this summer after grabbing their sixth Champions League trophy last campaign. Now, it is clear the direction the club has taken under Klopp.

The German boss who is always optimistic over promoting youth talent is always on the lookout for the next star. He seems to be following the same policy he followed at Borussia Dortmund and is stockpiling youngsters for the future.

Liverpool’s only other signing this summer has been 17-year-old centre-back, Sepp van den Berg for £1.7m.
