Why Naby Keita Will Never Be The Player Liverpool Thought They Signed

Liverpool will not get the most out of Naby Keita, according to former Red, Didi Hamann.

RB Leipzig sold him for over £60m in 2018 and Liverpool fans are yet to see the best of him i.e., the form he showcased in the Bundesliga.

Hamann believes it will be tough to replicate his heroics with the Anfield side after watching him for two seasons. He told the Athletic, “The patience with Keita is still there.

“Some players make a major breakthrough after three or four years at a club. It does happen. I don’t see Klopp giving up on him any time soon. But whether you could get a big fee for him and that money could be better spent elsewhere is maybe something that will need to be considered.

“The question is does Keita really believe he can become a major part of the team? Will the penny drop? Personally, I don’t think he will ever be the player at Liverpool that everyone expected him to be when he first signed because of the way the team sets up. But there’s still plenty of room for improvement. It’s down to him.”

Keita has made 51 appearances over the past two seasons but has yet to become a first-team regular under Jurgen Klopp. However, he has been anything but poor for the Reds, chipping in with 4 goal contributions this season.
